Frank is an artist, sculptor and geometrician who lives in San Francisco. He has taught art for more than thirty years in high schools and colleges. Since encountering the work of Rudolf Steiner, Frank has been exploring the relation between form and spirit. This has led him to take up research concerning the number seven, and in 2000 he discovered a new geometric form never seen before. Putting this form through the alchemical transformative process of Earth, Water, Air, and Fire, many previously unknown geometric structures have emerged. Also this geometric form demonstrates a remarkable correlation to the form and functioning of the human heart. On the basis of experimentation with various related geometric forms and the movement of water in a vortex, Frank is uncovering indications concerning the relationship between etheric formative forces and the geometry, structure, and physiology of the human heart. Thus the form is called the Chestahedron, both after its discoverer and because the form relates to the geometry of the heart, which sits in the chest.

For the last several years he has been teaching sacred geometry at the Waldorf teacher training program in San Francisco. He has been presenting his research at international conferences and Waldorf schools in the United States and Europe.

Why was the Chestahedron not found before?

People have been working with Platonic solids for thousands of years, including such great figures as Pythagoras, Plato, Kepler, Da Vinci, and many others. As in the past and up to this day, all studies of transforming Platonic solids have been based upon pressure/contraction. This approach utilizes truncations, which refers to cutting off or pushing existing corners flat in order to change a form. Frank’s approach to studying Platonic solids was not transforming them externally by contraction but internally by expansion.

Platonic forms were never solid to Frank, but open and hollow. Placing a small Tetrahedron inside a larger Tetrahedron, twice its size, and moving the smaller form produces the Chestahedron, something of which the world has never seen before in the long history of form studies. Surprisingly, the Chestahedron can show an internal transformation moving in two opposite directions at the same time.

These motions, when related to physiology, provide a picture of how the human heart is formed out of two opposite moving vortexes: the blood. Thus, there is a design concept behind the geometry connected with the human heart. The heart is working not simply through the utilization of pressure (pumping) but by suction (breaking) arising when two vortexes entwine together from opposite directions.

As amazing as the above findings are, it does not explain how the Chestahedron was originally discovered. All the five Platonic forms have an even number of faces, but the Chestahedron has an odd number of faces with equal surface areas, making it difficult to discover even with today’s technology. That is why a heptahedron with equal surface areas like the Chestahedron was not discovered before.

Frank used a mathematical approach first but couldn’t make it work — the form eluded him. He encountered an obstacle with odd numbers, which mathematics in the past could not overcome. To solve this problem Frank used his background as an artist and developed an artistic procedure specifically designed for new form research. His background as a trained and working artist has allowed him to develop flexibility in thinking, intuition and creativity. Moving from objective, mathematical approaches to artistic approaches and back engendered a creative tension that kept the research from becoming either too constricted or too loose.

The result was that Frank was able not only to discover the Chestahedron and myriad related forms, but has been able to slowly uncover their significance, bringing to the world an extension and furtherance of principles of sacred geometry and the mysterious relationship between form and spirit.

Frank’s work helps crack open new avenues of thinking, new ways of understanding our world, and provides insights that help us better understand ourselves. What he is doing, in a nutshell, is exploring the relationship between geometric form and the dynamic principles that underlie the operations of natural and physiological processes, specifically those related to the human being. He did not set out with this goal in mind, but rather followed the trail of a simple question concerning the possibility of a seven-sided geometric form with faces of equal surface area. As a sculptor, Frank didn’t just think about this idea, he made it – “it” in this case being a new geometric form that had never before been discovered. The significance of this is not just that such a form exists, but that the form has meaningful relationships to other phenomenon which are unveiled through a particular way of engaging with the research process itself. In other words, the significance of Frank’s achievements lie equally in the realm of the process by which his discoveries were made as in the discoveries themselves.

Frank’s work is moldbreaking in a very important way, and this is in terms of the process by which he does his work. The standard methods by which science builds upon itself have some significant blind spots and assumptions that have historically limited its potential (and created some nasty problems along the way, even while helping elsewhere). Most significantly, the methodologies used are generally designed to eliminate what is innately human from the research process, in an attempt to ‘control’ the situation so that results fit within the assumptions of the experimental design. This style of research provides a certainkind of answer: answers which are geared towards application through reductionistic analysis and control of component parts. Such approaches, and the answers they provide, are proving to be less and less able to provide fruitful metaphors for a sustainable future. Frank’s work exemplifies an approach that helps bridge this entrenched gap, bringing forth a soulfully engaged style of research that weaves between art and science, allowing the strengths of each to fructify the weaknesses of the other. The result is an integrated style of research that can comfortably deal with both the ‘outer’ and the ‘inner’, without over-privileging one or disparaging the other. In addition to this, his work is moldbreaking in that it constitutes a modern extension of the tradition of sacred geometry, providing a number of well-grounded insights that testify to the integration between humans and the laws of the cosmos.

    The Heart

Frank’s exploration of the relationship between form and spirit led him to do deep creative research on the number seven. By applying an alchemical transformative process to his seven-sided form, he has discovered many previously unknown geometric structures that demonstrate a remarkable correlation to the form and functioning of the human heart. These forms and Frank’s artistic process have much to teach us about the objective realities of Living Thinking.

Rudolf Steiner had made indications of a fifth chamber of the heart. He spoke of a time when certain changes would take place in the heart, by which gradually a fifth chamber will develop. In this fifth chamber man will have a new organ which will allow him to control life forces in a different way than is possible at the moment.

The radiation from this etheric organ of the heart is actually developing into a spiritual sense organ.

In researching the geometry of the human heart, Frank Chester has discovered how a fifth chamber can evolve. The heart will have to rotate just five degrees and a new valve will form.

“Balancing” says Frank, “is the primary function of the heart. Our inner work improves balance. When we are able to see ‘periphery’ and ‘center’ simultaneously; when we see ‘self’ and ‘other’ with equal equanimity, then we give the heart a loosening quality of balance that allows it to evolve etheric
    forces.

    Lilipoh Magazine Article Part I

Frank Chester is a master teacher, sculptor, and geometrician. In the year 2000 he developed an objective, lawful process using science and art wherein the invisible world could be made visible. The inspiration for this work came from his visit to Dornach, Switzerland, where he saw models of a series of seven-sided capitals in a building designed by Rudolf Steiner. As a result of this encounter, a seed was planted within him whereby he envisioned the possibility of constructing a seven-sided sculpture based on the geometry of these capitals.

Two years later he began his search for a three-dimensional, seven-sided sculpture. After much trial and error, failure after failure, and months and months of effort, he eventually discovered something, the likes of which this world has never seen before: a new geometric form with seven equal faces. In the history of mankind this geometry has never appeared on the earth before.

Even though Frank found a new geometric form, the significance of the form was unknown. (Rudolf Steiner said that “geometry was knowledge which man himself apparently produces, but its significance is completely independent of him.”) Since its discovery, Frank devoted himself to discovering the potential meanings of this form, and almost ten years of work have led him to see how it relates to the human heart, to the geometry of the Earth, to sacred architecture, and to inspiring others about the awe-inspiring connection between seemingly abstract geometries and the dynamism of life.

Lilipoh Magazine has featured Frank’s work in an article published in their Spring 2009 issue. View the PDF here:

    Lilipoh Article – Frank Chester

    Lilipoh Magazine Article Part II

I have something to tell you that is no small thing. I wish to introduce you to someone—someone who you will want to know, and know completely.

Before we start, consider this. In the Tsunami in 2004, animals did not drown. People drowned, but animals had made their way uphill before the waves crashed. They didn’t outrun the waves at the last minute, they were already on safe ground. How do you think they knew?

I think mother nature told them to move, and they heard and took her advice. That sounds juvenile, doesn’t it, like a fairy-tale of a theory. Well, prepare to reconsider. Because right now, I can present to your skeptical mind, evidence that the earth is a sentient being who will share information with us. When listened to, she can guide us through the otherwise impossible.

I can imagine you are thinking, here we go. Eco-gobbledy goop. I will restate it thus: we now have remarkable evidence that the earth contains within it an energy field that is exactly the same shape and energetic pattern as our own human core identity—the mature human consciousness which includes intuition and compassion and conscience—all of which resides in the subtle body at the heart.

The human core identity—heart-centered identity—is formed by the subtle energies in the shape that is the Chestahedron, the seven-sided form. That same shape also forms the sacred geometry template for the whole planet.

To witness the evidence, we must again follow the path of the intrepid investigator, Frank Chester, who continues to explore the essence and ramifications of the seven-sided form after first being inspired by a Rudolf Steiner drawing, a decade ago. Once again a prompt came from Steiner. This is the picture of that drawing:

Fig 1. Steiner’s drawing showing “sort of” tetrahedron
and naming locations of contact on globe.

This drawing was made by Steiner on a chalkboard during his lecture, The Forming of the Earth and the Moon: Causes of Volcanism (Sept. 18, 1924), about the subtle geometry of the earth, in which he said the earth contains a sort of tetrahedron, and the points of contact (written in yellow) are the South Pole, Japan, Mid-America and Caucasus.

Pondering this, Chester found his opening. The Chestahedron is “a sort” of tetrahedron, and he had to find out if it was a fit for the slightly vague mental image of the geometry of the earth’s structure given through clairvoyance by Steiner. Chester found a clear globe showing the continents of the earth and fashioned a Chestahedron of right scale to put inside: see how it matches up—it just fits. The points of contact match the places Steiner named. Mid-America turns out to be Kansas.

    Fig 2. Chestahedron in globe
does indeed match Steiner’s points of contact.

The plot thickens when we look at seismology imaging done by a team of researchers at the California Institute of Technology in Pasadena, California. Synchronistically, Scientific American printed this cover story about new ways to investigate the nature of Earth’s core.

Seeing this, Chester made his way to Pasadena to compare notes with Jeroen Ritsema, part of the team collecting seismic tomography data.

Fig 3. Seismology map produced at CIT.
Dark lines added by Frank Chester.

This map produced by seismology imaging uses blue colorings to represent cool areas, red the warmest, and yellow in between. Frank Chester asked Mr. Ritsema “What do these patterns mean?” Mr. Ritsema shrugged and told Chester that they had no idea of the meanings behind this data. With that, Mr. Chester compared his data points and the map produced by Mr. Ritsema. These tracings, superimposed where the Chestahedron would fit inside the earth according to Steiner’s contact points, are added by Frank Chester. Consider the many correspondences that are there.

Next piece of evidence: it turns out that tornado alley, so named because that area suffers the highest incidence of twisters,(map provided by the National Severe Storms Laboratory), is a tracing of the point of contact where two of these global lines meet, forming the edges of the Chestahedron form.

Fig 4. National Severe Storms Laboratory map of tornado alley.

Fig 5. Four tornados forming a line.

Until now, no one has given any meaningful theory as to why tornadoes reliably take a turn to the northeast, as it were, at the edge of Kansas and Nebraska. Tornadoes have been seen forming a line. The unseen force that organized this arrangement of four tornadoes in a line comes from the edge of the Chestahedron, which formative power follows. The organizing power that puts them in a line is not atmospheric in origin (coming from the weather), it is geo-spheric (coming from the earth).

As described in Part One of this article, the subtle template underlying the formation of the heart is a three-dimensional shape that is formed by spinning the angular seven-sided Chestahedron. That spinning traces a ring, shown below in the picture that looks like an inverted bell. That same ring is visible as the walls of the left ventricle of the heart, shown in cross section. It turns out that a matching ring is also visible on the surface of the Earth.

Fig 6. Spinning Chestahedron creates two concentric rings of set proportions.

Fig 7. Cross section of heart shows ring of matching proportions.

Fig 8. Predominance of Aurora Borealis falls within ring of matching proportions.

Photographic evidence from satellites have shown that the Aurora Borealis displays light within the confines of a similar ring, showing up anywhere within the ring but not crossing into the center part. The circle immediately surrounding the North Pole stays dark, and the Northern Lights flare up most boldly all around. But look at the Aurora Australis over Antarctica. The light streams across, in the center area too.

Fig 9. Aurora Astralis streams across South Pole, distinct from North Pole pattern of Aurora Borealis.

Fig 10. Placing concentric cones of the angle of a spinning Chestahedron inside the globe shows the reason for the difference between light displays at North and South Pole

There is an explanation, using the seven-sided form, as to why the Southern Lights show up differently than the Northern. Mr. Chester demonstrates with a set of cones, modeled by extending the northern circles down towards the south at the angle proscribed by the spinning Chestahedron, such that the inner cone ends at a point at the bottom, and the outer cone ends at a circle the same size at the South Pole as seen in this photo.

At the South Pole, there is no inner ring created by the formative forces, aligned with the spinning seven-sided shape. There is just open space at the South Pole, apparently where energy can stream with the same fervor and flow across the center.

This is the Planet I want you to meet.

    She has halos.

This is a NASA image spacecraft photo. The light is not enhanced. These are the polar auroras: Aurora Borealis and Aurora Australis. These visible halos and their shapes, together with the seismology maps, provide measurable proof that the Chestahedron shape is governing the subtle energies of the earth planet, just as they do the human heart.

How odd and completely different it is, to get my head around this. When I put this together with recently reading that the heart is actually as much, or more, of a consciousness displaying organ than is the brain, it’s almost overwhelming to think of what this means about the actual nature of our planet.

In the LILIPOH Issue 54 article New Spiritual Awareness in Neuroscience we learn that thoughts or cognition, as brain activity, are revealed by MRI as visible tracings of light. Monitors show that the blood vessels deliver extra blood into that area of the brain right before the neurons fire. The heart-system knows, before the nerve-system thinks. HeartMath Institute research shows that connecting with heart-centered awareness sets up for measurable improvements in intuition and more. I know from my own experience that when I remember to center my attention in my heart area, there is a quantum leap in my ability to transcend differences of opinion with others—far more enjoyably. That is wider intelligence, the making of love.

The raw material of consciousness isn’t intellect, it is energy. That is the same stuff our inner planet is made of. That energy dynamic is the result of the seven-sided spinning template. We cannot help but be connected in resonance with this identical energy frame.

How can we, with integrity, deny the possibility, nay, probability that the planetary energy is a conscious loving Intelligence, which we infinitesimally mimic in our human heart-Identity?

We owe it to ourselves in the highest sense of the word to reconnect with the larger identity. We are complete only as long as we are in contact with that largest identity. The path to the sentient earth is right here, at the center of heart.

This learning is coming at me from all sides. The following is from a story where life on another planet sends a rescue message to us on our destabilized earth. First they put it in context.

    Father Sun and Mother Earth
are the material presence of God in our lives.
They are the great providers of everything.
The vast pooled thought of God is expressed
as enlivened matter in Sun and Earth, creating Human.

    We peoples are the fruits
at the tips of the creative branches.
The Earth creates life by extending thought in a new direction.
The thought is so sweet that matter clamors after it, manifesting the variety of forms. The Sun sends the material energy to add dimension to the thought.

We peoples are the exotic flower of flesh, flesh that carries great emotion and love. Sun / Earth create You, as the neural bud of the great tree that They are. You are not separate from these two. These two are not separate from God.
